COACH-ED – the Collaborative Oncology Alliance for CacHexia Education, is a long-term global initiative to enhance the clinical recognition and management of cancer cachexia (CC).

Led by the Society on Sarcopenia, Cachexia and Wasting Disorders (SCWD) and the Cancer Cachexia Society (CCS), in collaboration with local host in Berlin the Charité Trust, COACH-ED is designed to create a scientific dialogue and build a sustained international network of expert medical oncologists dedicated to better outcomes for patients living with this often-overlooked syndrome.

Why This Matters

Cancer cachexia is a complex and multifactorial syndrome affecting up to 80% of patients with advanced cancer – contributing to poor treatment tolerance, reduced quality of life, decreased survival and up to 20% of cancer-related deaths. Despite its prevalence, cachexia remains underdiagnosed and undertreated across clinical settings.

Who Should Attend?

Medical oncologists interested in improving cachexia care and engaging in a growing global network focused on systemic change. Based on an international and multidisciplinary scientific dialogue, your participation will help shape future standards  of cancer cachexia management across healthcare organizations.

Why Attend?

Improve patient outcomes: Share best practices to recognize and treat cancer cachexia earlier and more effectively.

Be part of something bigger: Help shape a pan-European network of cachexia-informed oncology leaders—a growing community that will drive better outcomes across the cancer care continuum.

Lead the change: The Berlin meetings mark the launch of a global movement to bring cachexia to the forefront of oncology care. Your participation matters.

About Cancer cachexia (CC)

CC is defined as a multifactorial syndrome of weight loss characterized by skeletal muscle loss (with or without loss of fat mass) found in the presence of underlying malignant disease (Fearon et al 2011).

Half of all cancer deaths worldwide are attributed to the cancers most frequently associated with cachexia, namely, pancreatic (0.33 million deaths), oesophageal (0.40 million), gastric (0.72 million), pulmonary (1.59 million), hepatic (0.75 million) and colorectal (0.69 million) cancers.
